theology department

mission statement The Theology department provides instruction in the Bible as the authoritative Word of God, and in Christian history, thought, and practice with the purpose of commending Christ as Lord and Saviour and so contributing to the formation of Christian character, worldview, and service.

Career Opportunities A graduate in Evangelical Theology is prepared for further graduate level theological study and for various forms of Christian ministry in churches or in Christian service organizations. A graduate is prepared to make a Christian contribution to their communities and churches while working in other professions. A graduate is also prepared for any career which requires a broad-based liberal arts education.

why theology? A major in theology gives students an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of God, His Word and His World. It also provides excellent preparation for Christian leadership in a variety of settings. The development of critical thinking and writing skills, which are required for theological study, may lead graduates to diverse professions in a fast-changing society.

what does it involve? The curriculum focuses on three broad areas. The first is textual, in that it is directed towards the development of skills in the interpretation of primary Biblical texts. The second area is devoted to contextual study. By means of the study of philosophy, history and culture, as well as systematic theology, students learn to see the texts in relation to the larger world. The third area is the practical application of insights gained through the study of text and context. Practice is held to be critical to good understanding.

theology plus: double majors at LCC LCC Inernational University allows and encourages students to major in two fields during their studies. As a liberal arts college we encourage broad learning and multi-disciplinary approaches. Up to four courses may be applied to both majors. Doing a double major may require an extra semester or year of study.

Students often choose another major alongside theology. Taking two majors allows for greater flexibility in employment and voluntary service. During the course of a career, professionals often work in a variety of settings. The broad training of a double major can be a significant asset.

what we believe LCC Inernational University is committed to the historic Christian faith, which is expressed in the ecumenical creeds. These creeds were formulated in the early centuries of Christian history, prior to the division of the Church into Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant (or Evangelical) branches. They are shared expressions of our common Christian faith.

The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all that is seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God of God, Light of Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit He was born of the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated on the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom shall have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son). With the Father and the Son He is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
